I'm so proud...

So I said my sister-in-law and I were going to learn how to crochet together.... but that did not happen. There was a class we were going to take, but it had been a month away and I got impatient. I thought, "Well, I can teach myself and teach her, and then we can blissfully crochet together in a heap of yarn." I learned, and it took a long time to actually say I knew what I was doing because I had no one checking my work until recently. But after I felt I knew what to do on a beginner's level, I tried to teach her.

Now, my sister-in-law had just had her third child. The three kids were very distracting while I was trying to teach her. And unfortunately, I was not a great teacher for that session. In any case, she did not learn the first time. But of course we had to try again.

At another garage sale we were working, we decided it was a good time to go over the basics once again. This time, I had prepared my lesson and started her out with a row of 10 sc rather than trying to help her struggle through stitching directly into the base chain. It worked! She was crocheting really fast and her stitches were very close to even and not at all too tight! Success!

After I left, she kept going and followed a pattern to make this coffee cup cozy! I'm so proud of her!

I still feel bad that we did not take that first class together as we had originally planned, but I am certain she will surpass me soon in her ability. She has already made a baby hat since and is going after a basket pattern next. Great job!
